CAPE CORAL, Fla., -- A woman was caught on camera taking campaign signs set up in Coralwood Shopping center in Cape Coral. Mary Fischer, a Lee County School Board candidate, says it was an act of retaliation.
“It’s not okay to steal. Don’t take what doesn’t below to you," said Fischer.
Fischer tells Fox 4 on Wednesday she received a call from the store owner of Diamonds by Diane explaining a woman, supporting her opponent Charles Dailey, pulled up in a black SUV had come and taken her campaign signs.
“They had put theirs up next to mine. And the owner of the property took them down because she said they did not ask her for permission.”
Fischer says a candidate needs to ask for permission to place campaign signs on business property. She says she received that permission, but Dailey did not.
The next day, Sue Morales, the woman in the video seen taking the signs, showed up. Morales says she did take the signs but she only took down "Charles Dailey ones." She claims there were two Dailey signs and only one was allowed to be there.
However, two days later, Morales was again seen on camera showing up to the Diamonds by Diane demanding answers as to why Dailey signs were taken down.
Fischer says candidates are responsible how members of their team act.
“People like us who are running for public office to represent the public should be above board," said Fischer.
It is unclear if Morales is a staffer for Charles Dailey.
Fox 4 reached out to Dailey for comment and did not hear back.
