PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Charlotte County is joining a list of communities in Southwest Florida with temporary burn bans until extreme drought conditions improve.

This means people are no longer allowed to spark outside fires. The only exception is for people who are cooking on the grill.

The ban also doesn't apply to prescribed burns by the Florida Forest Service.

Burn bans are also in effect in Collier County, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, and Cape Coral.
