FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The City of Fort Myers is delivering on its promise to take immediate action amid concerns of toxic sludge in the Dunbar community.

Crews are now in the process of security the property by installing a barrier fence.

The issue revolves around a piece of land between Henderson and Midway avenues. Back in the 1960's, it served as a dumping site from a water treatment plant.

Arsenic was detected 10 years ago.

Officials say the soil is no longer hazardous, but long-time neighbors are still concerned for their health.

Next, the city will evaluate the site and work with the Department of Environmental Protection to improve the soil.

It could cost nearly $20 million to clean it up.
