COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The annual Twins Tot Walk Vigil and butterfly release ceremony is being held tonight in memory of children who have lost their lives due to drowning in Florida.

Drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1-4 years-old in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Vital Statistics. Florida’s drowning death rate among children ages 1-4 is the highest in the nation. Enough children drown each year in Florida to fill three to four preschool classrooms.

The father of 13-month-old twins, Joshua and Christian, who lost their lives eleven years ago, is the founder of the Just Against Children Drowning Foundation, who put together the event with The NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition of Collier County.

This is a very touching way to remember the young lives that have been lost to drowning.
