NAPLES, Fla. — NAPLES, Fla. — Family and friends remember Colby Singletary who died in a car crash in Naples Saturday. He was a rising senior at Palmetto Ridge High School in Naples, a star football player and award-winning wrestler.

Singletary’s sister Brooke said through tears Sunday her brother had a lot of ambition.

“When he walked into the room and he smiled, he lit up the whole place,” she said. “He had so many big dreams and places to go and things he was going to do in his life.”

He competed on the wrestling and football teams at Palmetto Ridge High School, where he would’ve been a senior this fall.

Florida troopers said Singletary was driving on Golden Gate Blvd. near 31st St SW around 5 p.m. Saturday. That’s when his Kia Sportage hit a median and crashed into a nearby tree. His girlfriend Alexis Renner was in the passenger seat and went to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers said Renner was wearing a seatbelt, but Singletary was not.

Florida Highway Patrol said they’re investigating the cause of the crash.
