A local diner is hosting an NFL Merchandise and Memorabilia burn event on Sunday in response to the recent NFL protests during the National Anthem.

Coney Island Drive Inn in Brooksville created an event they are calling a "Celebration of Patriotism." The event will feature live music and a special rendition of the National Anthem, the event reads.

The event is being held in response to an ongoing clash between the NFL and President Donald Trump.

Last Sunday, more than 100 NFL players sat, took a knee or raised their fists during the National Anthem. The movement was started in 2016 by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick took a knee during the anthem to protest racial inequality.

The protests have caused a large divide across the country. While several Americans support the peaceful protests, several Americans are against the protests, saying it's disrespectful to veterans and service members. When Trump tweeted that NFL players who don't stand for the anthem should be fired, owners and teams went to greater lengths to make some sort of demonstration of unity.

The diner said it plans to give away free hot dogs to patrons who burn merchandise on Sunday.

More than 130 Facebook users RSVP'd to the event by Friday morning.

The details of the event are posted here.
