LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Water woes are growing in Southwest Florida, and Thursday morning, local clean water activists are making their way to Capitol Hill to take action.

As Lee County is under a state of emergency, local clean water activists will be speaking with key government agencies in Washington DC about cleaning our polluted water.  They will also be presenting samples of polluted water from the Caloosahatchee River to key members of Congress.

Congressman Curt Clawson and Patrick Murphy will be joining in the discussions between local activist groups and the Enviromental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control, and other agencies.

These efforts all taking place Thursday on what's known as Lagoon Gulf Action Day.

Meanwhile, potentially toxic algae blooms have been spotted in North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Sanibel.  "There's no way I'd swim in that.  That looks no different  than the St. Lucie right now. Certain people need to see this; scientists need to see this, Rick Scott needs to see this," says Brett Cox, SWFL Clean Water Movement administrator.

Congressman Patrick Murphy will be live streaming the meeting from Washington on his Facebook page beginning at 8 a.m. if you want to see what happens.
