Dozens of residents who live near a proposed development took to the streets to voice their displeasure Monday.
"With all the apartments going up, you can see all over. It's not the Village of Estero anymore, it's kind of like the apartments of Estero," said Island Club resident Richard Godesky.
On Tuesday, the planning and zoning board is expected to hear from developers about Estero Crossing.
So far the proposal calls for 310,000 square feet of retail and office space, along with a hotel and possibly a gas station. It would be located along Corkscrew Road, between I-75 and Three Oaks Parkway.
"I think there is going to be some problems with flooding that is going to be back there, because all the water drains back toward our community," said Island Club resident Bill Savage.
Savage says he's talked with village officials and the developers about scaling back the project.
Other Island Club residents worry the development will contribute to traffic problems that plague the intersection leading into their development.
Joan Hansbarger says she was in a car accident here last year.
"Then I was in the hospital for 2 months with a double broken neck on this left side, multiple ribs."
Fox 4 asked Estero Vice Mayor Howard Levitan for comment on this story. He said he wants to wait until after the zoning issue is resolved to do an interview.
