A Collier County woman is upset after she says a pet groomer's carelessness led to her little dog Max getting hurt - and she says he hasn't been the same since.

Kerry Setters says Max used to be a friendly, playful pup - until Wednesday, when she dropped him off to have his fur trimmed at the PetSmart on Tamiami Trail East near Collier Boulevard.

"He was clipped so close to his skin," Setters said. "The manager then sent me to the vet, which proceeded to say, 'yes, the dog was burned and cut.'"

But she's more concerned about Max's mental scars.

"He acted irrational," Setters said. "He was running around, shaking...would not sleep."

The veterinarian prescribed medication to calm Max down. Setters says she doesn't want any other dogs or their owners to have a similar experience at the PetSmart she visited.

"I called and said, 'the groomer needs to be reprimanded,'" Setters said.

When Fox 4 inquired about that at the PetSmart location, we were referred to their corporate media relations office. A representative of PetSmart said they would look into the matter.

A PetSmart customer service representative did respond to an inquiry from Setters, asking her to "please accept our sincere apologies."

Kerry said she will take Max back to the vet for more check-ups, and is determined to bring him back to his old self.
