CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- An 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a car crash Tuesday that involved a dump truck on Pine Island Road.

The crash happened just before 9am at the intersection with NE 24th Avenue.

According to Cape Coral Police, the dump truck was headed west on Pine Island when an eastbound PT Cruiser attempted to turn left into the path of the truck.  The dump truck driver hit the brakes but still skidded into the car, hitting the right rear side.

The force of the collision pushed the PT Cruiser into a vehicle on 24th Avenue.  The dump truck overturned after the collision and slid into a ditch.

11-year-old Noah Gordon was a passenger in the PT Cruiser and was airlifted to Tampa for treatment to life-threatening injuries.  The drivers of the Cruiser and the dump truck were treated for minor injuries.

Police say the Florida Department of Transportation have plans to install a traffic light at this intersection, where there have been more than 70 crashes.
