SANIBEL, Fla. -- Traffic congestion is heavier during this time of year, especially if you're traveling to and from Sanibel Island.
On average there are more than 20, 000 cars traveling both ways on the Sanibel causeway every day.
To help visitors plan a trip to the island, the city of Sanibel has released a video a few months ago that features Mayor Kevin Ruane.
In the video, Mayor Ruane reminds visitors the worst time to enter the island is anywhere from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Peak traffic times to leave are from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The island has one main road but to help, the city has installed four traffic cameras that are linked to the city's website so people can view traffic in real time.
A mobile app compatible for Apple and Android devices has also launched called "Sanibel Bound." The app is also linked to monitor real time traffic to help plan a trip to visit the tropical oasis a little easier.
A spokesperson with the city says there are also message boards placed along Summerlin Road and McGregor Boulevard before getting on the island as a way to alert people when they can expect delays.
