A man sitting under a dock created a barricade situation in Cape Coral.

It happened around 8:30 Friday night near Southwest 40th Street & Surfside Boulevard in Cape  Coral.

According to Cape Coral Police, officers responded to a home in the 2900 block of SW 40th Street after reports of a man threatening to kill himself.

The man exited the house to get something from a vehicle and pointed a gun at officers as he went back in.

Later, the man walked from the home through an empty field with the gun, and crawled into a nearby canal.  A SWAT unit approached the scene before the man then climbed out  of the water and began rubbing a knife on his neck.

SWAT members were able to take the man into custody by distracting him with a flash-bang, sponge rounds, and a taser.

The man was taken to the hospital and then to Park Royal for psychiatric evaluation.

Police tell 4 In Your Corner they've been to this house several times.

Lee County Sheriff's Deputies helped Cape Coral Police in the situation.
