NAPLES, Fla. -- A tragic accident at a Naples beach resort left an Illinois woman dead and another man injured Wednesday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. in front of the Vanderbilt Beach Resort on Gulf Shore Drive in Naples.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a valet was helping 80-year-old Carol Ryan of St. Charles, Illinois into the passenger side of an SUV when a car that was stopped behind them started moving.

The car hit the SUV, causing Ryan and the valet to fall to the ground.  The car then hit both of them and continued across Gulf Shore Drive and into a ditch.

Ryan was taken to North Collier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The valet, 32-year-old William Espinosa, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital as well.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

There were no injuries among the four people in the car.  Its driver, 66-year-old John Glancy of Naples, will be charged with Careless Driving.
