FORT MYERS, Fla. –– A Fort Myers business used it's marquee to make multiple political statements that are stirring up controversy on social media this week.

Crowther Residential Roofing on Metro Parkway had the message “One flag, one language, one nation under God. God bless America" displayed on Saturday.

However, there was another message posted on the sign earlier this week that caught the attention of many people in the community.

The sign stated, "A boy tried to kiss me. I’m going to wait 40 years to tell him.”

Many believed the statement was linked to the Brett Kavanaugh hearings that took place this week after sexual assault allegations were made against him.

Alanis Garcia, who is running for State Representative for District 77, said the sign misses the mark.

"The sign yesterday doesn't express what happened with Dr. Ford's testimony," said Garcia. "She said she was being held down, her breath was taken away from her. She's describing an assault, that's not a kiss."

Garcia added she understands the owner of the business has the freedom to post whatever they would like onto the sign, but she hopes they realize there are people in the community who will retaliate against insensitive messages.

Fox 4 reached out to Crowther Residential Roofing for a comment, but the station has yet to hear back from the company.

This also isn't the first time the company has made headlines for using the marquee to make political statements.

The business posted a message on the sign last summer to take a stand against Confederate statues being removed from certain locations in Lee County.
