NAPLES, Fla. — The David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health in Naples wants you to 'Mind Your Mind.'

It's holding at 'Mind Your Mind' Community Day on Saturday, May 14th at Cambier Park, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

"Studies show that one in five individuals are going to struggle with mental health challenges," Emily Budd-Schepperly, the Director of Development for the David Lawrence Centers (DLC), said. "There's about a 10 year delay between the onset of a mental health symptom and then getting treatment."

Budd-Schepperly said the 'Mind Your Mind' Community Day will help people get the mental health resources they need in a fun way.

The goal of the event is to have the community join together for wellness activities, educational opportunities, and mental health resources. 'Mind Your Mind' Community Day will include yoga, fitness, art and pet therapy, and food vendors. Partners include: NAMI, Yogita Yoga Boutique, Collier Coalition for Healthy Minds, Naples Therapeutic Riding Center, Max Flex Fitness, Shy Wolf Sanctuary, The Humane Society of Naples, Storytellers Creative Arts, Project Help, Home Base Florida Veteran and Family Services, DLC Advocates, SwagWorld and YP Naples.

Dinah, who went through the 28 day program at the David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health for substance abuse, said the different resources and therapies helped her get back on the path to living life on life's terms.

"One of the key things they they help us do is to love yourself. And that's been always a hard thing for me to do, to get to that point where you feel comfortable in your own skin," she said.

Nino Maggadino of MaxFlex Fitness, a DLC Partner, said the fitness classes that will be offered on 'Mind Your Mind' Community Day are beneficial to your physical and mental health.

"Working through anxiety and depression by getting the endorphins going to your to your brain, so that you can feel happier, you can be a better husband, you can be a better wife, you can be a better child, better parent," he said.

Meanwhile, the art therapy that will be offered can bring hope and healing to people through the arts.

"The arts, number one sets the person at ease. It also opens up a doorway for them to be comfortable with sharing some of the thoughts that they have in their minds, or what they may be battling or dealing with," Dr. Bill Barnett, the President of Storytellers Creative Arts, another DLC Partner, said.

The event is happening at Cambier Park in Downtown Naples on Saturday, May 14th from 8-11 AM.
