Drivers should remain cautious in the area due to changing conditions.

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers have once again been forced to close a 58-mile stretch of Tamiami Trail east of Naples early Wednesday while fire crews battle an ongoing fire.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, just after 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) was shut down between State Road 29 near Everglades City and Krome Avenue near Miami.

FHP is monitoring smoke conditions along the road and a timetable to reopen has not been set.

The same stretch of road was shut down for about six hours on Tuesday afternoon.

A massive wildfire has been burning inside the Big Cypress National Preserve.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife service says the fire has scorched more than 3,300 acres.

Crews say the flames are burning a mixture of grass, pine, and cypress habitat.  No structures have been threatened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
