Arrests made in two North Port shootings

UPDATE (11:45AM) -- North Port Police have made two arrests for Tuesday's separate shooting incidents.

25-year-old Nicholas Popko has been charged with Attempted Murder Depraved without Premeditation for Tuesday's Blue Ridge Park shooting that left two people.critically injured.  Additional charges are pending.

37-year-old William Burger has been charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon for a shooting later Tuesday.  Police say he got into an argument with someone he knew at a house on Wesley Lane, then shot the man in the hand during a fight.

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Police are investigating a pair of shootings in North Port Tuesday and early Wednesday.

According to North Port Police, sometime around midnight, a shooting investigation began in the 4300 block of Wesley Lane.  That's just off S. Biscayne Drive.

One person is recovering in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  One person is in custody, and police say there is no longer a threat to the community.

We're told this shooting is not related to an earlier shooting Tuesday that happened in Blue Ridge Park on Ridgewood Drive.  That's where two people were fighting for their lives in critical condition after being airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Police say this shooting was not random, and that there is no threat to the neighborhood.  One man is in custody.
