LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A SWFL charity has received an overwhelming amount of support from the community after their donations were damaged.

Oma's heart has provided Christmas gifts for hundreds of Lee County families in need for the past several years.

"It's about knowing that people care it's about the season, it's about the kids having fun, about removing something that might be a burden to the family this time of year when there is so much on their plate," McFalls said.

On Saturday, founder Audrey McFalls said she walked into the toy storage facility and discovered it was flooded. McFalls said there was a water leak at a nearby business that poured over into her building.

McFalls said the water destroyed games, dolls and other toys that were supposed to be given out at their annual event on December 12th.

"Volunteers work hard to get these toys and they spend their own money to get these toys so that breaks my heart," McFalls said.

McFalls said in just 24 hours, they've recovered nearly everything that was damaged thanks to the generosity of the SWFL community. She said just one gift can make a world of difference for a family in need and can't thank the community enough for their support.

"We had a bit of  a disaster yesterday and people found that to be their opportunity to do what we all really like to do which is give," McFalls said.
