MIAMI (AP) - Authorities in Florida say a cyclist was hit by a pickup truck at a crosswalk, cited for the accident and turned over to immigration officials to face deportation.

The Florida Highway Patrol crash report says Marcos Huete "darted out" in front of the truck in Key West and was cited for hindering traffic. The driver was not fined.

Civil rights advocates on Thursday condemned the police response because an officer is heard on bodycam video asking the cyclist whether he was "illegal" before offering medical assistance. Moments later, a second Spanish-speaking officer calls for an ambulance.

Huete's sister says the officers told them to return to the scene of the crash, where the 31-year-old Honduran man was turned over to the Border Patrol.

Border Patrol says Huete had a deportation order and has been detained since the April 27 incident.
