Police arrest man for 1993 murder in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Nearly 23 years after a Fort Myers woman was found dead in a recreation center, police say the man responsible is finally behind bars.

60-year-old Angelo Ruth was arrested Thursday morning and charged with 2nd degree Murder for the death of Mattie Henry.

In September 1993, Henry was found dead in the Highlands East Recreation Center of homicide.

“Cooperative efforts between the Fort Myers Police Department and the Office of the State Attorney enabled Mattie Henry’s killer be brought to justice and help bring a sense of closure to her family”, said Chief Dennis Eads.

Ruth is currently in custody at the Lee County Jail and is being held on a $200,000 bond.
