CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police arrested a Cape Coral man for the murder of his father, who was found dismembered in a wooded area near his Cape Coral home.

33-year-old Matthew Marshall had been awaiting release on fraud charges after being accused using the credit card of Rick Marshall shortly after he went missing.

Tuesday, Cape Coral Police formally charged Matthew with 2nd Degree Murder, Abuse of a Human Body, and Tampering with Physical Evidence, after what they described as a "long, technically complex" investigation.

Investigators were searching Matthews's library records, which may have indicated research on how to cut up and hide a body.

“Our Detectives have worked tirelessly on this case, amassing as much evidence as possible in what is one of the most gruesome homicides Cape Coral has ever seen," says Captain Lisa Barnes.

58-year-old James Marshall was reported missing in February by a business associate after he failed to show up for a conference in California.  His dismembered body was later found dismembered in the woods near his Island Cove condo.

Matthew Marshall was initially charged with defrauding a restaurant after he allegedly tried to use his father's credit card to pay a $50 tab at Backstreets Bar the day after his father was last seen.  Investigators say he then reportedly left the place without paying after the card was declined.

A Four In Your Corner investigation uncovered records showing Matthew Marshall was admitted into a mental health facility in Minnesota in 2008, and has been described as mentally ill and chemically dependent.

Fox 4 also found Matthew's Facebook page revealing disturbing details in his "about me" section. He lists death fights, sex videos, and savagery as a few of his hobbies.
