Prisoner doing road work struck by Cape Coral driver
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - A prisoner doing road work in North Fort Myers was hit by a car driven by a Cape Coral man just before noon Thursday.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 57-year-old Mark Ashton was driving east on Bayshore Road just west of McSpadden Road when his car approached a work area.
50-year-old Thomas Simon was working on a paved apron when Ashton veered into the work zone, hitting a traffic cone and driving across the paved apron and striking Simon.
Simon was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Ashton was cited for careless driving.
