Cape Coral, Fla. - "I've experienced about four accidents out here, and unfortunately the last one was with the young lady that drowned in the middle of the night."

Flowers mark the site at this Cape Coral intersection where Alexie Krill lost her life nearly six months ago.

"At night time its very dark."

Reports say she ran a stop sign, drove off of surfside boulevard into a canal and drowned. Tony Fernandez has lived along this road for ten years, just a few blocks from where the accident happened. But he feels it could have been avoided.

"Theres been nothing done about it, I think there should be something done about it"

On Wenesday the Cape Coral Transportation Advisory Committee agreed that changed need to be made. They approved a plan that includes changing the design of the intersection, installing rumble strips, adding solar powered flashing lights, a new curb, and even more reflectors to alert drivers of the sudden change in direction.

"We spoke to Alexie's family today and they say along with a guard rail on the side of the road here, they think the new changes will help. But some of the neighbors we spoke to, aren't so sure."

Yvonne Vazquez lives right across from the sharp intersection, and he tells us it will still be just as deadly even with a guardrail. The only thing he thinks will make it safer is if they rebuild the road right through where his house i snow. Tony disagreees, but says theres an even bigger concern.

"I think guard rails and lighting, is the most important thing"
