FORT MYERS, Fla. - Cruise conundrum! A Fort Myers woman wants answers after Carnival Cruise Line is ignoring her questions!
Last week we brought you her concerns on her cruise next month. Four in Your Corner's Kelli Stegeman is getting to the bottom of why she can't get answers from the company that's been in a lot of hot water lately.
"I want to say 'Yay we are going to go on a cruise! It's going to be so much fun. I'm so excited!" said Fort Myers resident Ryan Allen. "Right now I'm not excited."
Ryan has had enough with the problems plaguing Carnival.
"In all honesty, their credibly has gone to zero in my book," she said.
In the past month, 4 ships have had mechanical issues that altered travelers' trips on board.
Ryan is now trying to cancel her cruise set for the end of April on Carnival Victory.
"Now, all I'm worried about is if we are going to go on this ship, is this ship going to get us from point A to point B to point C and back home again?" she said.
There's a problem, a cancellation means Ryan will give up 50 % of what she's already paid for the trip.
"If people are worried about their safety and well being on their trip, then they shouldn't have to be penalized for deciding not to use that fleet and go with something else," said Ryan.
She reached out to Carnival in an email that said, "I feel in light of all the issues going on that I would be able to get my full amount back due to the situations at hand."
In an emailed response from guest services with Carnival, the cruise line updated her on the troubled ships and talked of inaccurate media coverage but never answered her questions.
Reporter Kelli Stegeman called Carnival to get her some answers
They emailed her this statement:
"All modes of transportation, from planes, buses, cars - including cruise ships -from time to time have technical or mechanical issues, but these are rare. Emergency situations occur very rarely on our ships, and our crewmembers are highly trained to respond to any situation that arises. Please keep in mind that no one was injured and in each case our guests returned home safely.
Safety is our number-one priority and we have achieved a very strong safety record over our 41-year history. It is the highest priority for Carnival Cruise Lines, Carnival Corporation and all of our sister cruise lines. We are committed to providing our guests and crew with a safe on-board environment and we have the resources of the Carnival brand, Carnival Corporation and expert third parties looking at what lessons we can learn from recent incidents to ensure it doesn't happen again.
We checked on the viewer's question and have been (sic) that standard cancellation penalties are still in effect."
Ryan now plans to tough it out.
"I understand I booked it, I paid for it, I get it," she said. "I'll just cross my fingers and hope that nothing goes wrong on the trip."
