Dump truck vs. car kills 1, seriously injures another in Collier
EAST NAPLES, Fla. - A crash involving a dump truck and a Toyota Prius claimed the life of an elderly Naples man.
The crash happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Rattlesnake Hammock Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 81-year-old Maria Rufo Diaz was driving east on U.S. 41 and tried to make a left turn into the Sunshine Ace Plaza.
The FHP says the dump truck driven by 47-year-old Luis Diaz was headed west on U.S. 41 when for some some unknown reason Diaz pulled her Toyota into the path of the dump truck.
88-year-old John Joseph Diaz died Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital. The crash left Maria Diaz in serious condition. The driver of the dump truck wasn't injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
