Man alerts authorities to his own Collier County plane crash
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - Thanks to technology, a man saves himself after crashing his plane near Immokalee Saturday morning.
The sheriff's office tells FOX 4 the man alerted authorites just before 10 Saturday morning that he had crashed his ultra-light plane.
The man didn't know exactly where, so the sheriff's office used his cell phone to find the general area of the crash.
It took crews and hour-and-a-half to pinpoint his exact location under a canopy of trees southwest of Lake Trafford in Collier County.
He was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial by helicopter.
His current condition isn't know.
The NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash.
