Lee County Sheriff's Office looks for impaired drivers on St. Patrick's Day

FORT MYERS, Fla.- According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, in 2011 there were 570 alcohol related crashes in Lee County. There were 25 deaths. In the state of Florida in 2011, those numbers are even higher. 

Across the state of Florida, there were 920 deaths due to suspect alcohol related crashes. The Lee Count Sheriff's Office will begin DUI sobriety checkpoints this weekend starting on Friday, March 15. 

As part of daily traffic enforcment the Lee County Sheriff's Office will also target one of the following three locations on Friday: South Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs/ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (State Road 82), Fort Myers or Alico Road, Fort Myers.
