FORT MYERS, Fla. - It had the sound and feel of a campaign pitch.
"It's just as much a privilege to be in Fort Myers with you today as a democrat," said former Florida governor Charlie Crist at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Myers on Saturday.
Three months after switching parties, Crist is making his rounds across the state. The question on voters' minds is whether he'll run for his old job.
"Well I'm thinking about it," said Crist. "There's no question about that. I haven't reached any conclusion. I'm taking the opportunity to listen to my fellow Floridians and give it serious thought."
Crist says his decision will be based on a number of factors. "There's a lot of things, mostly the mood of the people and how they feel," he explained.
On Saturday, Crist spoke before nearly 100 people. He was invited by the Democratic Women's Club of Lee County to talk about issues facing the state.
"It's hitting things that i think are important to all of our fellow Floridians," said Crist. "[Like] education the environment, ethics."
"A lot of us agreed with some of the policy issues he took even though he was a Republican," reflected James Helms, the second vice president of the club, on Crist's time as governor.
In 2010 Crist ran for the US Senate seat. But he lost the primary to then-house speaker Marco Rubio.
The next gubernatorial race is almost two years away. "I don't really have a timetable to be honest with you," said Crist. "They have a whole session ahead and we have plenty of time."
