Port Charlotte woman killed in crash
MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - A two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon took the life of a 65-year-old Port Charlotte woman in Manatee County.
Mary Perkins was driving her Nissan south on SR 62 near SR 37. The Florida Highway Patrol says for some unknown reason 38-year-old Jason Dearth of Parrish, Florida hit the brakes of his pickup truck as he was traveling north and slid into the southbound lane hitting Perkins car head-on.
Dearth's pickup caught fire. Perkins died at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol says that Perkins was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital in serious condition.
The FHP says charges in the crash are pending.
