Lottery Scam in Collier County
Several incidents in Collier County believed to be related
NAPLES, Fla. - "Don't trust, check it out first"
Golden Gate resident Miguel Vinas is leaving this Winn Dixie where just days ago someone outside the store fell victim to a new scam hitting the area. But Miguel says this is nothing new to him.
"I hear about lotto scams all them time BUTT from British Islands, from Australia, even from Africa"
"Scammers will approach you in the parking lot saying they've got the winning lotto ticket, and they'll share the winnings with you, but only if you give them cash first"
"If you even win the lottery, theres no fees up front, you get taxed after the fact"
Collier County Deputy Chad Parker says the scammers are specifically targeting hispanics, assuming they aren't familiar with the rules of the Florida Lotto. They say the scammers are popping up all over Collier County, including outside this Wal-Mart in Naples -- where a victim reported losing hundreds of dollars.
Miguel says he won't fall victim to the scammers...he's too focused on his OWN lottery tickets.
"I play and check my numbers, and I know if I don't win."
