Fire crews watch for Punta Gorda fire flareups
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Firefighters are keeping a close watch on two Charlotte County hot spots where brush fires raged Wednesday night.
One fire burned more than 80 acres near several home around Rotonda West.
Another fire near Bermont Road in Punta Gorda scorched more than 500 acres.
Patrick Mahoney with the Division of Forestry said the Bermont Road fire destroyed two mobile homes. He says it doesn't take much to get fires going in these conditions. The combination of low humidity and strong winds make it easier for the flames to spread.
