Cape zoning board shoots down nursing home complex
Complex would have gone into residential neighborhood
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Homeowners who live near a proposed nursing home complex gave a zoning board a standing ovation after members decided not to allow a parcel of land to be rezoned for an assisted living facility.
The homeowners complained the city gave them a week and half notice by mail that a public meeting was being held to discuss the facility, that was proposed to go onto a plot of land on SW 17th Place.
The vacant land would have had to be rezoned to commercial to allow for the nursing home project to move forward.
City and state planning staff recommended the rezone but board members decided against the plan, after hearing from concerned homeowners in the area.
