BUCKINGHAM, Fla. - A chicken thief is on the loose in Buckingham.  A Lee County deputy was called to a farm in the 5600 block of Pangola Road to investigate the disappearance of dozens of birds.

A caretaker noticed that a number of Rhode Island Reds were disappearing over the weekend.  She called law enforcement after she realized more than 200 chickens had been taken from a secured stall inside a barn.

The chickens, weighing six to seven pounds each, are valued at about $10 meaning the thief made off with more than $2,000 worth of birds.
