FORT MYERS, Fla.- A massive snowstorm in the Midwest lead to some cancellations into the Southwest Florida International Airport on Tuesday.
Mel and Suzanne Martin check the arrival board. The couple is waiting for their granddaughter to arrive at RSW. She is flying in from Chicago and got out ahead of the weather.
"She went up and stayed at Midway. Her husband took her up there at 1am this morning. She slept at the airport so she could get a flight this morning," said Mel Martin.
A winter wonderland mess brought the snow plows out and kept planes grounded. A late winter storm dumped heavy snow on the Midwest Tuesday. Some flights from Chicago-Midway to Southwest Florida International Airport have been called. This is why Mel and Suzanne traded the snow for sun years ago!
"We bought a place down here 10 years ago. We winter down here from October to May 1st. Actually, we go back in May. We enjoy being down here in the winter," said Martin.
Anita Corwin spent the last week in Florida. She is flying back to Massachusetts on Tuesday and says it is time for mother nature to take a break!
" A month ago we had a blizzard which dumped 26 inches of snow in western Massachusetts. We have totally have had enough," said Corwin.
And those who timed it just right ended up at their choice destination.
"Flight at 12:40pm. She called and said it was snowing like crazy and flights after hers were all canceled," said one lady at RSW who was waiting for a friend from New Hampshire.
Some passengers were very happy to see the baggage claim on Tuesday.
