Horse rescue in Caloosahatchie River
FORT DENAUD, Fla. - A horse rescue on the Caloosahatchie River Monday ended in success near Fort Denaud in Hendry County.
Boaters called authorities about a horse stranded in the river.
The Region 6 Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue Team (T.A.R.C.) responded and found the horse appearing exhausted from swimming in the river.
A lift was used to safely lift the horse up the steep river banks of about 15 feet and onto land.
Dennis Van Roekel provided veterinary help to the team consisting of Lee, Collier, Charlotte and Hendry County responders along with the Alva Fire Department and a Marine Unit from the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
