FORT MYERS, Fla. - A crash during the morning rush hour brought traffic to a halt at Colonial Boulevard and Ortiz.
The Fort Myers Police Department reports that Valentine Chavez Gonzalez ran a red light while making a right turn from Colonial onto Ortiz.
A garbage truck that had the right of way hit Gonzalez Honda Civic slicing it in half. The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m.
Police say Gonzalez may have had a good reason to run the red light. Witnesses agree with his story that as he was stopped at the light, another vehicle pulled up next to his, the driver got out and threatened him.
Gonzalez pulled out to escape the driver who then got back in his car and took off when the light turned green.
Fortunately Gonzalez suffered only minor injuries but he was cited for careless driving.
