Greek Fest
A taste of Greece comes to Fort Myers
Fort Myers, Fla. - "It was really authentic, it really was"
Here at Greek Fest the music is playing and the food is cooking
"Opa!"
Barbara Huepenpecker spends her winters in Fort Myers, but this is the first time she's come out to Greek Fest.
"Of course I love Baklavah, I had to try some of that"
"Food, plenty of it. Dancing, music, marketplace, who needs to go to the mall?"
From gyros to dresses organizers have been bringing Greek Fest and its authentic culture straight to Fort Myers for 38 years
"Its like coming to our house and sitting down at the dinner table. Thats what we feel like, we're opening our doors and we want you to come join us"
"The festival is all about history and culture, but there is a fun side. For the kids, of course."
Kids looking to take a break enjoyed carnival style rides and games.
"Its really fun, you can dance out here for a long time, and theres a bunch of rides"
While the Alpha Omega Dance Troupe wasn't busy enjoying those carnival rides, they performed group dances straight from Greece.
"Op! Op op op!"
"We're giving back. You gave to us, we're going to give back and hope to help our community too"
And while it may look like all fun and games, money raised went back to local charities.
"I've heard a lot about it, Im surprised it took me this long to get here"
