Officials: Cape building industry roaring back

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral building industry leaders say construction is on the upswing, especially with new construction.

The Cape Coral Construction Industry Association kicked off the Builders Showcase of Homes Thursday with local professionals acting as judges on 20 model homes by local builders.

Builder Gary Aubuchon, who is displaying one of the homes in the showcase, says people are buying again in the Cape at all price points. 

"The market is on its way back," he said. "We're seeing increased activity, more people buying new construction than we have in many years."

He says people from all over the county and Europe are looking to land their piece of paradise in the Cape, even people from Central America are looking to buy.

"We want them to come see Cape Coral and how proud we are that we're growing again," Moe Beneke, President and CEO of the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, said.
