Collier Co. Commissioners pass resolution protecting 2nd Amendment rights

NAPLES, Fla.- It's a fight for your gun rights! Less than a week after Marco Island passed a resolution taking a stand against potential federal gun laws, Collier County is now following suit.
Dozens joined together wearing the same black t-shirt on Tuesday and went to the Collier County Commissioners meeting. They urged commissioners to pass a resolution to preserve a person's 2nd Amendment rights.
"Input from our commissioners that says essentially regardless of what happens on the national level here at the local level we're going to back the Constitution as written," said Jerry Eddleman who attended Tuesday's meeting.
One by one, supporters spoke and urged commissioners to send a message to our Governor and legislature.
"Encourage them to pass a law to stand up against federal overreach," said Keith Flaugh who spoke before commissioners.
After talks on the federal level to tighten gun restrictions, activists started a grassroots effort and drafted a resolution. A similar one just passed Marco Island City Council last week in a very close vote.
"We see a lot of things happening on a national level with introducing different types of legislation which seeks upon infringing on our 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms," said Eddleman.
On the flip side, opponents argued it is not the responsibility of local government to get involved and commissioners have more important things to discuss.
Commissioners voted unanimously and passed the resolution.
"Next is try to engage our Florida legislature to stand tall on actual laws to stop federal overreach." added Flaugh.
Marco Island is holding a town hall meeting at 7pm about this issue. It will be held at Marco Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (875 Elcam Circle Marco Island, FL).
