2 teens arrested for car burglaries in Port Charlotte
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County detectives arrested two teenagers on a total of 34 charges in relation to a series of car burglaries in Port Charlotte.
The thieves hit unlocked cars on February 16 in the 1100 blocks of LeMars, Lodi and Beaumont Avenues.
The duo are accused of stealing several GPS units, cameras, a cellphone and charger.
The investigation led detectives to 19-year-old Derrick Alexander Crissinger and a 16-year-old boy.
They located Crissinger Monday who said he and the other teen went carhopping around 3 a.m. specifically looking for unlocked vehicles.
He said the 16-year-old threw several of the items into a canal fearing they could be tracked. Crissinger took detectives to the area pointing out the location of some of the vehicle burglaries and where the property was thrown into the canal.
The two are charged with six counts each for burglary to an unoccupied conveyance, six counts of petit theft and one count each for grand theft.
FOX 4 News does not name juvenile defendants.
