Fort Myers man arrested for aggravated assault on police officer
FORT MYERS, Fla. - An early morning incident outside of the Sphinx Hooka Lounge led to the arrest of a Fort Myers man for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
25-year-old Tony James was also charged as a felon carrying a concealed weapon.
Fort Myers police were patrolling the parking lot of the club located at 2158 Colonial Boulevard around 3:11 a.m. where a large crowd had gathered.
Officers parked their patrol cars in front of the Harley Davidson store next door to monitor the crowd when suddenly several shots were fired.
Police could hear the shots and noted that no one was hurt. Officers took cover and called for backup when a witness gave them a detailed description of the suspect.
Police approached the suspect as he got into a sports utility vehicle and detained him as well as two others.
Police found a handgun on the floorboard near James and discovered four matching shell casings near the vehicle.
