CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral Police are investigating a series of early-morning traffic accidents that left one person dead.

Police identified the dad man as 57-year-old Mark Salyer of Cape Coral.  He died at the scene.

Also injured in the crash was a woman in another vehicle, 56-year-old Francisca A. Espinel of Cape Coral suffered series injuries.  She was driving a SUV that was hit by Salyer's vehicle.

The dense fog cast an eerie yellow glow on the accident scene. Several cars were involved in the wrecks, which appeared to have been started when a man crossed several lanes of traffic into oncoming lanes.

The accidents happened around 7:00 a.m. near the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway and NE 21st Ave.

"We both heard the first boom, that was the guy coming from the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes," neighbor Bill Moriarity said. "And then he hit it head on just about 50 yards in front of that, spun 'em completely around."

"At this point, we're still piecing it together," Capt. Lisa Barnes with the Cape Coral Police Dept. said. " I really don't know what happened."

Officers were on scene right away, pulling out yellow tape to keep people back. Cops were also advising drivers to keep moving to avoid on-looker delays and more potential accidents.
