FORT MYERS, Fla. - A man riding his bike near Hanson and U.S. 41 got into a verbal spat with a driver that nearly hit him Tuesday night.  Fort Myers police say the driver pulled out a handgun and pointed at the cyclist.

An officer happened to be driving by the scene and saw the verbal confrontation and the sound of a round being chambered in a gun in preparation to fire it.

The officer spotted a man later identified as 31-year-old Cecilio Matias holding a silver handgun in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Matias drove away in a van and police made a traffic stop and the handgun was found with a cartridge in the chamber.

Matias was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
