Charlotte County opens shelters for sub-freezing temps
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - The Charlotte County Office of Emergency Management will open cold weather shelters Sunday night.
The National Weather Services expect temperatures to fall into the lower 30's to upper 20's through Sunday night into Monday Morning.
Two shelter will open in Port Charlotte and one in Englewood. The shelters and their opening times are as follows:
Port Charlotte - The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army will open at 6 p.m. a shelter at 2120 Loveland Boulevard at 6 p.m. The shelter has a capacity of 50 people. Also open in Port Charlotte will be the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition at 1476 Kenesaw Street.
Englewood - The American Red Cross in partnership with St. David's Episcopal Church and "Just Neighbors" of Englewood will open a shelter at 6 p.m. at St. David's Parish Hall, 401 Broadway. St. David's will provide soup and bread.
Residents seeking further information can call the Charlotte County Office of Emergency Management at (941) 833-4000 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Charlotte County American Red Cross at (941) 629-4345 24 hours a day.
