North Port teen arrested carrying drugs in Port Charlotte
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Charlotte County deputies arrested a North Port man carrying a backpack filled with illegal drugs.
Deputies say they found LSD, marijuana and drug paraphernalia on 18-year-old Joseph Michael Capeto.
A deputy was patrolling in the area of Cannolot Boulevard and Sunninglow Street in Port Charlotte at 2:46 a.m. this morning when he saw two subjects wearing all dark clothing.
The subjects matched the description of suspects that had been committing burglaries in the immediate area. Backup deputies were called and Capeto and his 18-year-old girlfriend were detained; both were acting very nervous.
When asked to search Capeto’s backpack, he said, “You’re not searching my bag.” A CCSO K9 unit arrived and the dog alerted on the backpack.
Inside was a red piece of paper cut into 14 separate squares that tested positive for LSD. Also found were three plastic baggies containing eight, five and one grams of marijuana. A larger ZipLock baggie contained 25 one-inch baggies with “Heavy D” written on them; all tested positive for marijuana. Detectives arrived and also seized Capeto’s cell phone and laptop inside the backpack. The investigation continues.
Capeto’s girlfriend was not charged, but he was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. He posted $7,000 bond and was released.
