New Florida license law catches Canadians by surprise
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A new law slipped through the Florida Legislature last year that is now catching Canadian drivers by surprise. The state is now requiring visitors from Canada to have an international drivers license if they wish to get behind the wheel.
In the past snowbirds from Canada could use the license issued by their own government. The Florida Highway Patrol has decided to hold off on enforcement of the new law that went into effect in January.
The FHP is waiting to find out if the new law violates international treaties already in place regarding foreign drivers.
The new law isn't sitting well with Canadian visitors.
