Olympian Oscar Pistorius charged with murder
SOUTH AFRICA - Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder after a shooting at his home in South Africa.
Police in Pretoria say they received a call this morning from the home of the double-amputee, who's known as "blade runner."
The caller said there had been a shooting at the residence.
When officers arrived, they found paramedics trying to revive a thirty-year-old woman, model Reeva Steenkamp, who had been shot an unspecified number of times.
The woman died at the home. Officers say they found a nine-millimeter pistol at the scene.
They took the twenty-six-year-old runner into custody. He is expected to appear in court later today.
Pistorius made history at the London Olympics last year when he became the first double-amputee runner to compete on the track at the Olympics.
At least one local news report claims Pistorius may have mistaken his girlfriend as an intruder and shot her.
