FORT MYERS, Fla. -  A bill set to be debated in the Florida House this session would make changes to the state's pension system.

House Bill 7011 would push new state employee's as of 2014 into a 401(k) type retirement plan.

Eloy Ricardo with Florida Professional Firefighters is concerned families of the men and women who sacrifice their lives in public duty won't be taken care of if the state pension plan is gone.

House bill 7011 in committee right now says new state workers starting in 2014 would have a 401k style plan no more pension.

Ray Edmonson with the Florida Public Pension Trustees Association says the move won't save any money and calls it purely political.

Supporters say it will save taxpayers and making a small change now will avoid drastic changes in the future.

Diane Oakley with the National Institute on Retirement Security says Florida has one of the best state pension systems in the nation and people are attracted to that.
