ESTERO, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol says an inattentive driver hit the rear of a school bus as it slowed to stop at some railroad tracks on Estero Parkway this morning.

62-year-old Douglas Cooper of Fort Myers was behind the wheel of his Volvo when he tried to avoid hitting the bus.  The FHP says Cooper clipped the rear of the bus and ended up hitting a fixed railroad sign.

Cooper says he was trying to pick up some paperwork that had fallen and didn't see the bus in time.

There were six children on the bus from Pinewood Elementary.  None of them were hurt.  The driver of the school bus, 41-year-old Shavonne Thomas suffered minor injuries.

Cooper was cited for careless driving.
