CHARLOTTE COUNTY - Charlotte County school officials praised Gov. Rick Scott's proposal to give all Florida teachers a pay raise but the district wants all employees to get a pay hike.

The governor announced his budget plans last week. In it, he calls for a $2500 pay bump for all Florida teachers. The legislature will have the final say on that.

Charlotte County school officials tell Fox 4 all school employees, not just teachers, should get a raise.

"We've been probably six years in our district where no one has gotten a raise," said district spokesman Mike Riley. "I always think about the people - the electricians, the paraprofessionals, the people who work in food service and maintenance and ground crews - I hope that those people are able to share in some of that."

According to Riley, Florida ranks 40th in the nature when you break down how much is spent on each student.

State lawmakers and the governor must agree on the budget during the legislative session next month.
